The Alcian Blue pH 1.0 kit is indicated for the coloration of strongly acidic mucine.
Alcian Blue is used to visualize acidic mucin in epithelial and connective tissue. The dye molecule, a cuproftalocyanin, binds to the sulphurous and/or carboxylic groups of the mucin. The pH of the Alcian Blue solution is decisive for the selective staining of the mucine: at pH 1,0 only mucopolysaccharides and sulphurated acid glycoproteins are stained, not carboxylated ones.
