Congo Red - 1711

Congo Red staining kit is indicated for the staining of amyloid on tissue sections.

Red Congo is an anionic dye that forms hydrogen bonds with carbohydrate components and is able to deposit in amyloid fibrils, which then show notable dichroism under polarized light.

The tissue stained with Congo Red appears pink-red under a transmitted light microscope. In polarized light conditions, amyloid deposits exhibit marked birefringence. Other structures also stained with Congo Red, such as collagen for example, are not displayed under polarized light.
