Perls - 1728

The Perls kit is indicated for visualization of ferric iron in tissue sections or blood smears.

Perls staining is especially used on blood smears and bone marrow or liver biopsies for visualization of any iron deposits. Potassium ferrocyanide solution in an acidic environment reacts in the presence of ferric iron to form an insoluble blue precipitate (Prussian Blue). The cell nuclei are then counterstained with a contrast red stain.

To avoid interference, it is recommended not to use iron tools, such as slide tweezers.
