Pre-filled containers with formaldehyde are disposable, airtight containers pre-filled with 4% (w / v) formaldehyde suitable for the transport and storage of biological samples.
They have been designed to minimize operator exposure as he will no longer have to carry out the formaldehyde transfer operations.
4% buffered formaldehyde, commonly referred to as 10% buffered formaldehyde, is the most used fixative in the field of histopathology.
By fixation we mean the inactivation of autolysing enzymes and bacteria that cause tissue putrefaction and conferring structural stability to the chemical constituents of the protoplasm.
4% formaldehyde is one of the primary non-coagulating fixatives, hardens the protein gels without separating the water from the proteins and fixes the protoplasm without causing the formation of a microscopic spongy network.
It has a very low oxidation potential, penetrates the tissues fairly quickly and hardens them gradually.
The volumetric ratio between the tissue to be fixed and the fixation liquid should be approximately 1:20.
The fixation time must be evaluated by the operator, according to the volume and type of sample to be fixed.
