B5 Fixative: features
Fixative mixture containing heavy metals (mercury dichloride) in buffered formaldehyde with fast tissue penetration speed (about 1 mm/hour).
Excellent fixative for fine histology. Elective for hemopoietic tissues.
Mercury precipitates in tissues may occur; for removal use iodine then sodium thiosulphate.
The fixative may corrode metal containers.
FIXATION TECHNIQUE:
Volume ratio specimen/fixative:1:50
Specimen thickness: max 1 cm
Fixation time (room temperature) 5 hours for samples up to 5 mm, from 1 to 2 days for larger pieces
